Where to go out in Siem Reap
|
In a restaurant
Siem Reap has a large number of restaurants mostly concentrated around the Old Market area (South of the city). Many kinds of food are proposed, from all Asia and especially from Cambodia. Khmer cuisine generally uses some rice and some fish (from Tonle Sap Lake), the most popular dishes are "Amok fish" (with coconut milk and curry) and "loc-lac beef" (with lime juice, eggs, red onions and lettuce)
Strong ties between France and Cambodia existing even now, there are also many French restaurants. And many Cambodians are in the habit of eating some bread, what is unusual in Asia

In a bar
Again in the Old Market area, and especially in Pub Street, Let's go for a walk in pleased streets and footpaths, and sit down where it allows yourself to be tempted more. Besides, some resorts have wonderful bars and terraces. For example, "Hotel de la Paix" has a bar with a very original style, it is worth trying !

In a Disco
Two main nightclubs exist in Siem Reap, Martini et Zone One. The last one located in downtown, is a very popular place crowded by young Khmers from Siem Reap, a good way to go and meet them !

Recommended bars and restaurants
The Red Piano, near the "Old Market" night out district, this restaurant and cafe created in 2000 (probably one of the first bars in downtown) is a welcoming and quiet place
Hôtel de la Paix, Sivutha Boulevard, 5 min from "Old Market", to have a drink in an unique nice ambiance
Linga Bar, in a footpath located just behind "Old Market", bar and terrace in a very gay ambiance
Café Indochine, Central Sivatha Rd, On the North end of the busy central road, at 300 m of "Old Market" : All Asian and French flavours gather in this nice and old wooden building, prices are moderate
Viroth's restaurant, Wat Bo Road, at the other side of the river when we are on the Old Market area, is a trendy restaurant serving Khmer food cuisine adapted by his Chef, for a moderate price
L'escale des Arts et des Sens, located at the corner between Oum Khun Street and Street 14 (behind the Post Office), is a welcomed quiet haven when we are exhausted after a full day visit of temples. Cuisine there is subtle and inventive. Khmers dishes are metamorphosed, it is worth trying !
Le Tigre de Papier, restaurant located in Pub Street, to eat a good pizza and see the street ambiance
Le Bistrot de Paris, also located in the "Old Market" night out district, is a Parisian-style bistro, a convivial and authentic setting that will bring you back top the bistros of Menilmontant or Montmartre in the 50's. You can eat a good plate of assorted delicatessen or cheese, and you have an excellent selection of imported wines
